AL Pulls Out of The American Library Association

Eagle Forum of Alabama commends the parents, library patrons and grassroots organizations across Alabama who stood against obscene graphic illustrations and agenda driven literature in children’s sections of our libraries. We are thankful for Governor Ivey and numerous legislators’ expressions of dissatisfaction with current policy. The announcement that Alabama is withdrawing from the American Library Association is certainly a step in the right direction. We need each local library to follow the recommendation set forth by Dr. Pack and vote to disaffiliate from the ALA. We ask that any and every book recommended by this organization continue to receive intense scrutiny.

President Eunie Smith said, “We are hopeful that future library selections will include classic children’s literature which has uplifted and instructed generations of Americans while upholding such timeless values as truth, honesty, beauty, loyalty, love, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control. Children were engaged, enthralled, inspired and instructed with age appropriate, wholesome poems and stories, with the Golden Rule, with our nation’s heroes and heroines, and our Judeo-Christian tradition which is their heritage. This must happen again if current generations are to retain the individual freedom on which America’s future depends.”
