GAMBLING BILLS
HB151/HB152 (Rep. Blackshear) These bills would expand gambling in Alabama.
STATUS: We do not support any expansion of gambling in Alabama. The House and Senate versions are still being worked on in conference committee.
ACTION: Use this smartlink to send a message to your Representative and Senator to vote “NO” on all gambling bills.

PROTECTING KIDS FROM ACCIDENTAL EXPOSURE TO PORN
HB167 Rep. Sells-Requires that new cell phones or tablets that are activated in Alabama, have their explicit content (porn filter) app be toggled to “on”. See fact sheet here.
STATUS: It passed the House. On Wednesday, the Senate FRED committee will vote whether to advance the bill.
ACTION: Use this Smartlink to contact the Senate Fiscal Responsibility and Economic Development (FRED) Committee members and ask them to give HB167 a favorable report, so it can advance to the Senate floor.
SEX ED
HB195 Rep. DuBose-Ensuring healthy sex ed programs are used rather than comprehensive sex ed (CSE) programs like this that contain inappropriate graphic sexual grooming methods. Learn how and why to protect your child from CSE here.
STATUS: We support this bill. It is awaiting a vote on the House floor.
ACTION: Please use this smartlink to contact your House member and ask him/her to vote “YES” on HB195 to protect students from inappropriate sex ed programs.

SB2 Sen. Allen-Constitutional Amendment to mandate the first verse of the National Anthem played once a week at public schools
STATUS: We support this bill. It is awaiting a Senate floor vote.
HB425 Rep. Yarborough-Repeal the criminal exemption for libraries and library employees or agents from the Anti-Obscenity Enforcement Act.
STATUS: Awaiting action by the House Judiciary Committee but will not have enough time to be passed by both chambers this session.
SB241 Sen. Allen-Ban use of Chinese drones for public agencies
STATUS: Waiting to be heard in the Senate Transportation and Energy Committee but will not have enough time to be passed by both chambers this session.
SB303 (Sen. Carnley) HB424 (Rep. Mooney) These identical bills would provide that the World Health Organization and the World Economic Forum shall have no jurisdiction or power within the State of Alabama.
STATUS: We support these companion bills. These bills passed out of their respective committees but will not have enough time to be passed by both chambers this session.
AL Public Library System--Public Hearing
On Tuesday, April 30th, the Alabama Public Library Service will be holding a public hearing regarding Governor Ivey’s proposed policy changes. Thanks to all who participated in sending letters ahead of time! Becky Gerritson, our Executive Director hand-delivered almost 1,000 letters! More than 70 people are expected to speak at the public hearing.
